Today I wanted to share our latest kitchen game changer. The perfect clutter-free solution for the fruit and vegetable lover.
It’s revolutionized our small galley kitchen and given us so much more counter space and it can help you too!
When you eat a lot of fruits and vegetables, you know how valuable counter space is.
We’ve tried baskets and bins and we’ve even tried just spreading the fruit completely out on the counter.
No matter the solution they eat up space like suburban sprawl.
Valuable space that could just give us peace of mind.
Less clutter = clear mind. ☺️
Here’s the solution! A mesh over-the-door pocket hanger often used for shoe storage. The ones with mesh pockets are best, but I was ready to buy a plastic one and use a hole puncher to create vents.
It fits perfectly over our pantry door and happens to store much more than I thought!
Mesh Organizer Options
Ours has 24 mesh pockets (4 across & 6 down) with 4 support hooks at the top and canvas backing.
- See what’s available at your local Target or Walmart (I think this is the one we got)
- Order online (brown mesh pockets, black mesh pockets, and beige)
We started by taking care of our biggest counter hog—the fruit.
Bananas, lemons, apples, and oranges. 3-4 bananas can fit in a pocket.
Mesh means everything can breath, but the spacing is far enough apart that apple gas (ethylene) doesn’t effect the ripening or spoiling of other fruits and vegetables.
The pockets are big enough to fit one or two large sweet potatoes.
What fruits & vegetables can you store?
- Bananas
- Apples
- Pears
- Oranges
- Grapefruit
- Tomatoes
- Avocados (while ripening)
- Potatoes
- Clementines
- Lemons
- Garlic
- Ginger
- Sweet Potatoes
- Onions
- Small papaya
- Mangos
- Turmeric
- Kiwi
- Smaller squash
- Limes
Well that’s it! Cheers to organizing your small space! What would you like to store in here? xx
