It’s time to get into another easy Instant Pot recipe!
Today we have a do-it-yourself grain blend of white jasmine rice and millet.
Having cooked millet before—perhaps poorly—I had decided I didn’t like it.
It wasn’t soft and chewy like quinoa or fluffy like rice. It was seedy. 😝 In fact some varieties of millet are in bird seed. Tweet tweet?

So here I am with a jar of it (it’s how we store bulk grains from the co-op) and no desire to eat it except to avoid wasting it.

I’ve been cooking rice in the Instant Pot like a pro. I usually make a 1-2 cups and store it in a pyrex container for quick lunch, dinner, and sometimes breakfast meals.
I decided to add millet to that day’s rice and see what transpired. I treated each grain like a separate recipe and looked up the water to grain ratio.
I then added the rice and its water followed by the millet and its water. I cooked according to the rice settings in the instruction manual and…
A gorgeous fragrant miracle happened!
The millet cooked perfectly and for what is kind of unpleasant on it’s own, turned out great surrounded by rice buddies.
Millet adds a creamy yellow color and a barely noticeable nutty flavor.
I’ve since used up the millet and look forward to buying more!
How about that?
