We’ve been road tripping the last two weeks, which has meant NO CSA Haul!
Don’t worry we’ve had plenty of good food during those two weeks, but still.
Driving up the gravel hill with dust clouds racing our back tires to see a sight like this.
To see and even touch where each nourishing item stretched from the soil to meet the sun.
To talk and learn from the hard-working volunteers and students of the farm.
It’s pretty freaking special.
Sometimes there are cows to say hi to. The middle one pissed so much when I approached the gate. I don’t know if it was me or just her time to go. Her friends didn’t seem to mind. 😜
The Haul
- A bunch of cilantro
- A bunch of Swiss chard
- A bunch of mixed Asian greens
- Bag of spinach (not pictured) – huge leaves!
- Two sweet dumpling squashes
- One large onion
- 2 heads of garlic
- 3 large carrots
- 6 Royal Blue potatoes
- 3 large tomatoes
- 1 Anaheim pepper
- 1 red bell pepper
- 3 small jalapeños
- 1 large jack-o-lantern pumpkin 🎃
Can we just talk about the Royal Blue potatoes for a moment? They are the most beautiful potatoes I have ever seen. If I was Anne of Green Gables, I would call them Galaxy potatoes. Their skin is a deep maroon and covered in white speckles. It looks like an astrological miracle. And the potato flesh is a deep pale yellow.
Very stunning.
I just cut one into fries and roasted for 30 minutes. The edges were crispy and the insides tender. A little nooch and salt and we were good. Tasty.
What should we carve in our jack-o-lantern? xx
