This month’s Vegan Cuts snack box packs some damn tasty snacks including ‘these can’t be vegan’ sour cream & onion chips, strawberry macaroons, chocolate, and bars you’re supposed to eat naked or something.
Sjaak’s – Hearts of Cherry Chocolate – ★★★
Description: Decadent cherry chocolate truffles in a lovely heart shape.
Let’s start with the empty wrapper from Sjaak’s. Just kidding! I inhaled this Hearts of Cherry in about 2.5 seconds. It was cute and heart-shaped and went immediately into my belly shape. Sjaak’s has some pretty cool vegan chocolate, but they aren’t at your average store, so order online to get your fix.
The Daily Crave – Veggie Sticks – ★★★
Description: BONUS ITEM!
I thought these would be boring, but they were absolutely crave-inducing. Crunchy and savory with a full potato flavor undertone. Jeremy and I finished these pretty quick. Unfortunately, I haven’t run into them at Safeway or the co-op, but thanks to their store locator, I see they are at Winco! [Buy on Amazon]
Runa Tea – Mint Guayusa & Ginger-Citrus Guayusa Teas – ★★★★
Description: Infusers made from Amazonian tree leaves that can be brewed like tea for an energy-rich beverage.
I received the flavors, mint guayusa and ginger-citrus guayusa. What is guayusa? It’s a caffeinated holly tree of the Amazonian. The leaves of the tree are dried and brewed like tea for their energy-inducing properties. Guayusa also contains theobromine, L-theanine, glutamic acid, as well as ALL of the essential amino acids! Super tea much?
I’ve only tried one other Runa product, their Clean Energy Drink, but this was a first for their straight tea leaves. Both flavors were really great, I would opt for the ginger-citrus as I’m still coming around to the fandom of mint and peppermint teas. [Buy on Amazon]
nākd. – Cocoa Orange Bar – ★★★
Description: Raw fruits and nuts delightfully joined together into a chewy, nutritious bar.
Let’s get nākd! A bar that’s perfect for all food lovers including raw vegans! Hence they are gluten, wheat, and dairy free. Ingredients are listed as 40% dates, 40% cashews, 14% raisins, 5% cocoa, and a smidgen of natural orange flavoring.
These tasted more decadent-like than nature-hike-ish. The chocolate was rich like a brownie complemented by a splash of orange. Upon reflection, I think I like these better than Lärabars. Gasp. [Buy on Amazon]
Vegan Smart All-In-One Nutritional Shake – Vanilla – ★★★
Description: A low-calorie supplement shake containing whole foods, probiotics, and 20g of protein per serving.
One of these days, I’ll do a vegan protein round-up and list them by preference. This would be near the middle, maybe a little closer to the top, but not the top. It was good, didn’t upset my stomach, filled me up, and had a whopping 20 grams of plant-based protein. These powders always say just mix with water or favorite vegan milk—by default I add one or two bananas and some soy milk. [Buy on Amazon]
Hail Merry – Strawberry Macaroons – ★★★
Description: Raw macaroons bursting with the flavors of sun-ripened strawberries and vanilla bean.
A cute little snack pack of 2-bite strawberry ‘shortcakes’. I recommend. They’re a healthy snack made from whole food ingredients and even contain skin and hair-beautifying coconut oil. [Available on Amazon]
Earth Balance Sour Cream & Onion Chips – ★★★★
Description: Kettle-style chips made with non-GMO ingredients in flavors like Cheddar and Sour Cream & Onion.
It’s the first item to get a 5-star rating and it’s pure vegan junk food. Makes sense. We can’t buy these anywhere near us, I think the closest is 90 minutes away, but somehow we’ve bought them several times.
The description above is perfect, they are a thick and crispy kettle chip loaded with sour cream and onion flavor. A vegan chip that could rival Lay’s any day. [Available on Amazon]
Two Degrees – Apple Pecan Food Bar – ★★★
Description: BONUS ITEM!
This bar looks seedy, but it’s light, crunchy, and yet filled with nutrient dense ingredients. Quinoa, chia, and millet to name a few. These aren’t just any bars either, they are backed by a special mission. For every bar that is bought a meal is provided to a hungry child. You can also donate directly without purchasing a bar – though you should, because they are delicious. [Available on Amazon]
Equal Exchange Dark Chocolate Fruit & Nut Bar – ★★★
Description: Organic, Fair Trade certified dark chocolate bar packed with fruits and nuts.
Delicious! A perfect chocolate bar filled with bites of tangy, sweet, and chewy dried fruits along with big chunks of nuts. [Available on Amazon]
Any food favorites from February’s box? I think mine were nakd. and the sour cream and onion chips.
