January’s Vegan Cuts beauty box revealed new-to-me products from Better Botanicals, Aubrey Organics, Primal Paste, Dew Puff, Vermont Soap, and Ofra Cosmetics. A great mix of vegan beauty with face/body/hair care items, cosmetics, and deodorant.
Let’s start with my favorite!
OFRA Cosmetics – Plumas Long Lasting Liquid Lipstick – ★★★★
I don’t have a close up picture of this lipstick, but it’s the plum colored tube in the above picture. This was my first introduction to OFRA cosmetics who specialize in makeup and skin care products. The retail value for this lipstick is $19.90, almost exactly the same price as the entire Vegan Cuts box.
Description: A long-lasting, vibrantly-hued liquid lipstick that’s rich in antioxidants and moisturizing vitamin E
This has been my go-to lipstick so much so that I can’t remember what I wore before this came into my life. It applies really well and for a long-lasting lipstick—which it is—it applies and looks like a normal lip gloss, whereas many of the long-lasting ones are thin almost like lip stains.
It’s moisturizing and on average I can get about 4-5 hours out of it, including periods of drinking and eating. I tried ordering several other of their colors, but ended up sending them back. Plumas is the color for me.
All of OFRA’s cosmetics are never tested on animals or contain animal products. OFRA cosmetics are now available on Amazon, many with Prime shipping. [Buy on Amazon]
Follow-up, I have since re-purchased this lipstick twice. I use it up until it’s all gone. Absolutely love it. Never stop making this color.
Dew Puff – Cleansing Tool – ★★★
Description: Konjac-based facial cleansing sponge that removes impurities and is gentle enough for all skin types. Cleans, exfoliates, and refreshes. Skin stays naturally hydrated. 100% chemical-free. Just add water to use.
This puff is made from only one ingredient, “the konjac root – also known as elephant yam or kon-nyaku in Japanese.” It weighs almost nothing and when you soften it in water it feels like a soft pillow. So soft that I wondered how it would manage to exfoliate? But it did and it was gentle. I used small circular motions and usually used it in the shower. My skin always felt smooth after using and never turned dry or irritated. [Buy on Amazon]
Primal Pit Paste, Thyme & Lemongrass – ★★
I was excited to try a new-to-me natural deodorant, but I didn’t like this at all. The smell was good and I liked the packaging, but that was about it. It was hard, so hard that I couldn’t dig it out to even apply it and when I did it didn’t soften from the warmth of my skin, just crumbled and got all over my clothes. I will blame that on the shea butter or the ratio of shea butter in the product, because that is the only ingredient that differs from my homemade deodorant—that I’ve been using for almost 2 years now. Shea butter is very hard when at a cool temperature, much like coconut oil, but seems to soften at a slower rate at warmer room temperatures. I think companies use it in natural deodorant to maintain a semi-solid to solid product when shipping and storing. [Available on Amazon]
Better Botanicals Coriander Balancing Cleanser & Jojoba Clarifying Scrub – ★★★
Description: Ayurvedic skincare products that blend botanical extracts to enhance health and beauty.
Better Botanicals are paraben and phthalate free and there are no animal ingredients or testing.
I liked both of these, they smell nice, felt good on my skin, didn’t irritate my skin, or cause any breakouts. [Available on Amazon]
Aubrey Organics Nu Style – ★★★
Description: Detangler and shine booster made with quinoa protein to smooth out tangles and tame frizzies.
This detangling, shine-boosting spray came in a cool little trial sized bottle. I’ve used quite a bit of it, but it’s one of those things I’m not sure makes a difference.
Follow-up. Due to the natural nature, the smell does go off after a few months, not so terrible that you can’t use it—just a stale smell.
Vermont Soap Sweet Orange Shower Gel – ★★★
Description: 100% natural moisturizing shower gel made with organic oils and without artificial colors or fragrances.
I’ve really been looking for a more natural and cruelty-free body wash (and have fallen out of love for my watery castile soap wash) so I was really happy to receive a shower gel. It wasn’t watery, had a nice essential oil citrusy scent, and made my skin really soft – but not oily. It doesn’t get sudsy, but otherwise a really good option. Oooh! I just saw on their site that they have bulk bar soap available! Jeremy, it’s time we got rid of Dove. 🙂 [Available on Amazon]
I’m thrilled I found an awesome vegan lipstick! What are your thoughts?
