How do I get my sweet-sour fix? Kiwi slices! It would seem weird to compare the kiwifruit to an ex-favorite candy, sour patch kids. But, in terms of cravings, they do the job.
As you might know, I like to avoid processed foods. Nothing is more processed than a beloved bag of artificially flavored and colored sugar chews i.e. sour patch kids.
Back in the day I loved these sweet-sour sugar raging beasts of candy. I remember eating so many sour patch kids in such a short amount of time that the sides of my tongue became extremely numb and scratched. Yikes!
So, this is just a short little reminder for me and maybe you, that a kiwi fruit can jump in to fill these shoes. The ideal kiwi shouldn’t be over-ripe (think mushy and bland). Ewww. We want tart! When is a kiwi ripe? It should have a slight yield when pressure is applied, similar to a ripe mango or avocado.
In case you’ve never had a kiwi, here’s how to get past the hairy exterior. Just peel the skin with a potato peeler or paring knife and cut into slices or eat like an apple. I’ve heard of people eating the hairy skins or using in their smoothies, but I don’t. Not my bag. 🙂
Hope this inspires you to grab a kiwi.
I love kiwi. LOVE it. Agreed re: the skin.
